Green Library
The Green Library project is an exciting initiative that aims to create a vibrant, eco-friendly library environment and implement environmental initiatives in library activities. The goal is to preserve the environment and raise environmental awareness among the university community.
We need to make sure we apply the principles of environmental culture at every level of human life, from the individual to the societal.
Objectives:
- To raise environmental awareness among library users and staff.
- To promote green technologies and ergonomic lifestyles among library visitors and staff.
Priorities:
- Energy efficiency and the use of alternative energy sources.
- Waste sorting.
- Green architecture and design of library premises.
- Organisation of environmental and nature conservation events.
Tasks:
- Implementation of a programme on energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources.
- Organisation of environmental information events and lectures for the public.
- Development and implementation of a waste sorting system in the library.
- Creation of green areas around library buildings.
- Promotion of environmental initiatives and projects in the local community.
The project is being implemented in the following areas:
- Waste sorting. A corner has been set up with containers for collecting batteries and plastic for disposal and recycling.
- User information. The information board displays materials about the environment and its preservation; lectures and master classes on environmental issues are held for students.
- The ‘Smart Chair’ and ‘Black Board’ installations are made of natural wood and serve as a photo zone.
- In 2016, we switched to serving users via an electronic form, abandoning paper forms.
- In 2020, we participated in the All-Ukrainian project ‘Greening 2020’ by planting trees and bushes on the territory of the library and university.
- We joined the Responsibility Marathon, an initiative of the Bohdan Hawrylyshyn Family Foundation, which aims to promote the values of responsibility among Ukrainians. Sunflower seeds were planted in open ground near the library building. This is how Ukraine blossoms thanks to our actions.
- We installed a bicycle parking area near the library for students and employees.
